The Martin-Linsin Residence: A new home for Hospice of Orleans residents

Since we accepted our first patient to the Martin-Linsin Residence on December 10th, 2012 we have had the privilege and pleasure of serving several individuals and their families.  The Residence provides a home away from home for those patients who cannot remain at home due to complex medical needs; home situations where the caregiver works or another family member requires care; or perhaps the patient is relocating to be closer to family in this area.  Whatever the reason, we are happy to open our home to them to help alleviate the stress and emotional complexity of their journey.  The Residence is staffed with a Registered Nurse and trained HHA 24/7 who provide for all the medical needs and personal care that a resident may require.  The criteria for admission to the Residence are the same as for the overall Hospice program.

Located on existing property on Route 31, Albion, the 8,500 square foot facility features eight residential patient suites, each designed to accommodate visitors and allow family members to stay overnight.

In addition to a family kitchen, lounge and dining room, there is a spa area with therapy tub, family meeting room, a chapel, and an indoor courtyard in which to enjoy the winter sun and warmth.

Our Benefactor-- Bruce Martin

Bruce Martin was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" Linsin Martin, who spent the last two months of her life with us as a patient of Hospice of Orleans. "Hospice not only cared for Peggy, they took care of me," said Bruce. Bruce was a lifelong resident of Shelby -- other than during World War II, when he was a bomber pilot, flying 50 missions in Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for service to his country and continued to serve his community as a farmer committed to the rightful use of land and its resources.
