At Hospice of Orleans, our volunteers are the heart of our organization and our face in the community. Hospice volunteers are vital to all our programs and ensure our continued success.
Hospice of Orleans currently benefits from the help of almost 150 volunteers.
Volunteers are welcomed in many capacities of hospice care. So, whatever your skills or talents, there are various opportunities and challenges for you:
Respite care: care for a patient, with the help of our staff, to enable family members to take a necessary break. Volunteers provide companionship, errands, shopping as well as assistance with light household tasks. Volunteers do not provide any type of hands on care for patients.
Bereavement care: call or visit a patient's family to offer comfort and support following the loss of a loved one.
Fundraising and special events: assist Hospice of Orleans administration with fundraising events -- man a booth, work the raffle table, organize dinners and galas, or even chair an event.
Office work: assist us with our monthly newsletter, update our website, help with mailings, filing work, and provide telephone support.
Volunteer committee: make calls and send emails to inform our volunteer team about events and other requests for volunteer assistance.
Refreshment committee: donate baked goods, refreshments, or supplies for fundraisers, group meetings, or special events.
Memorial Garden: weed, plant, prune, landscape, and provide general maintenance during any of the three seasons that our pretty garden is open to the public.
Martin-Linsin Residence: Volunteer greeters offer telephone support and reception duties and meal servers assist with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
